Vintage Gault Original French Blush Brick Manor Sculpture

Description

A beautifully detailed example of Gault Original miniature architecture, this vintage handcrafted ceramic townhouse captures the romance of an old European streetscape in remarkable miniature form.

The tall, narrow façade is finished in softly weathered shades of blush pink, cream, terracotta and charcoal, giving the piece a wonderfully timeworn appearance. Intricate brickwork covers much of the exterior, while rows of individually detailed windows feature delicate latticework and recessed panes. At the top, an ornate architectural pediment frames an arched window with scrolling floral embellishments, creating an especially elegant silhouette.

At street level, a raised central doorway is approached by a tiny sculpted staircase, while additional windows, masonry details and architectural moldings give the façade extraordinary depth. A warm terracotta-tiled roof provides a beautiful contrast to the pale exterior, and even the less-visible sides of the building have been worked with miniature windows, textured walls and architectural details.

The side bears the distinctive GAULT signature, identifying it as part of the original ceramic line.

Gault Original miniature houses originated in France in the 1980s under artist and architect Jean-Pierre Gault. The original ceramic buildings were entirely handmade, with Gault's artisans using thousands of individually sculpted stamps to create windows, doors, brickwork and other architectural elements. Even examples sharing the same basic building form could differ in their details, making each ceramic piece essentially unique.

A wonderful collectible displayed individually, this piece becomes even more captivating when combined with other Gault houses to create a miniature European streetscape.
