Vintage Gault Original Amsterdam Wine Merchant Ceramic Building

A wonderfully detailed vintage Gault Original ceramic architectural sculpture from the collectible Amsterdam series, depicting a traditional Dutch wine merchant’s shop. Handcrafted in France, the piece features a softly weathered blush-pink façade, dark green doors and storefront, a tiled roof, ornate Dutch-style gables, heraldic shields, tiny floral details, and an exceptionally charming miniature wine display.

The storefront bears the inscription “Amsterdamse Wijnkoperij”—Dutch for an Amsterdam wine merchant or wine shop—making this piece particularly distinctive among Gault’s miniature buildings.

Gault Original ceramic houses originated in the 1980s under French artist and architect Jean-Pierre Gault. Each was made by hand, with variations in windows, doors, architectural details, painting, and patina giving individual examples their own character. More than 3,000 different stamps were used in the creation of the architectural details.

The Amsterdam collection was among Gault’s early international series, alongside Provence, Paris, Alsace, London, Rome, Venice, and San Francisco. The wonderful corner configuration of this example allows the architecture and storefront to be appreciated from multiple angles.
