“Tisane Gauloise” — Vintage French Art Nouveau Advertising Panel

A fabulous piece of French advertising history, this decorative Tisane Gauloise panel reproduces an iconic late 19th-century advertisement designed by French Art Nouveau artist Paul Berthon (1872–1909).

Originally created in 1896 and printed in Paris by Imprimerie Chaix, Berthon's design advertised Tisane Gauloise, a French medicinal herbal preparation once sold in pharmacies. The striking composition depicts an elegantly dressed woman standing atop the globe while unfurling an oversized package of Tisane Gauloise—a wonderfully theatrical example of turn-of-the-century French commercial art.

Soft sage green, faded yellow, charcoal, cream, and touches of red give the piece a beautifully aged palette, while the typography and stylized female figure embody the unmistakable decorative character of the French Art Nouveau period.

This later decorative panel has developed considerable surface patina and wear, lending it the wonderfully timeworn appearance of old French advertising signage. Particularly striking in a kitchen, bar, powder room, or mixed gallery wall, it is the kind of unusual French find that instantly becomes a conversation piece.
