Henri Le Sidaner (1862–1939) Signed French Garden Fountain Watercolor

Description

An enchanting French garden scene attributed to celebrated painter Henri Eugène Augustin Le Sidaner (1862–1939), whose luminous, atmospheric paintings captured the quiet poetry of gardens, architecture, and the changing effects of natural light.

Executed in watercolor on paper, the composition centers upon an elegant stone fountain tucked within a lush garden. Washes of soft green, golden yellow, lavender, and blue dissolve gently into one another, creating the dreamlike atmosphere for which Le Sidaner became known. The work bears the signature “Le Sidaner” at the lower right.

Le Sidaner trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Alexandre Cabanel before developing a distinctive style influenced by Impressionism while maintaining a quieter, more intimate sensibility. Gardens became an especially important subject in his work after his move to Gerberoy, where the garden surrounding his home provided enduring inspiration.

Presented beneath glass in a substantial dark wood frame, the rich frame provides a beautiful contrast to the watercolor's delicate palette and gives this intimate garden scene wonderful presence.
