WWI Trench Art Brass Pom-Pom Shell Vase – “The Fieldflower Pom-Pom Shell”
France, c. 1914–1918
Height: 9.5 cm
Socket Diameter: 4 cm
Weight: approx. 138 g
A finely preserved example of World War I trench art, created from a small brass “pom-pom” artillery shell casing. These compact shells were produced for rapid-fire guns and later reclaimed as artistic material.
The engraved floral decoration softens the shell’s original military purpose, transforming it into a personal and reflective object. Pieces of this scale were often kept close—on desks, shelves, or bedside tables—as reminders of survival and memory.
Retained in original condition, this shell shows age-appropriate wear that confirms its authenticity and historical use.
