Echoes of Reims – Pom-Pom Shell No. 1

Echoes of Reims – Pom-Pom Shell No. 1
Description
This antique 37mm French artillery shell dates to World War I and features hand-embossed oak leaves and a likeness of the iconic Reims Cathedral. Though not decorated in the trenches, this piece still reflects the artistic craftsmanship and reverence for symbolism that defined the trench art movement.
This shell is one of the famed "pom-pom" shells—named for the distinctive pom-pom sound made when fired from the QF 1-pounder Maxim gun, widely used in WWI. These small-caliber shells were often collected and repurposed by soldiers or artists as commemorative items, honoring the places and moments that shaped the war.
While this piece was not trench-decorated, it remains a powerful relic of wartime artistry and memory. It is one of a pair being sold separately.
Note: Due to the age and handmade nature of these shells, subtle differences or similarities between pieces are not signs of reproduction.
